Hayden just got to start Scouts in April. Immediately we had a pinewood derby that we had just a few days to prepare for. He drew up the plans for how to cut it, chose his colors, and he and Todd worked hard on it and we were off to the races. The car started out great, but quickly lost speed. We had to make a few adjustments, change the weights, add liquid graffite, etc. to even get it all the way down the track. In the end I think he came in last place, but Hayden had a great time working with his Dad and creating something, and the family had fun just watching. People pull out all the tricks at these Pinewood Derby races! I think we need to start planning now if we want him to have a chance of winning next years race.

How fun! I wouldn't know the first thing about making a pinewood derby car, but I bet it was a blast for the boys. What a fun thing to look forward to next year. Have you seen that funny movie where the Dad's freak out about the pinewood derby and having their 'kids' cars win?
